Inks - Thermochromic

Thermochromic inks are inks that change colour with a change in temperature.  CTI Inks use 3 different types, one that responds to cold temperature, body temperature and a hot temperature.

They are based in US and they have some interesting products for printing.
Their website design is fun too.

Di Mainstone talk

Di Mainstone, interactive fashion designer, gave a presentation about fashion that playfully explores human behaviour with woven soft-technologies into a fashion aesthetic.
  • She designed a dress that can pick up on gestures,
  • Outfits that are embedded with sensors to send messages through clothes
Her inspiration for this project -
  • what could nitinol, the material, do?
  • re-defining the silhouette/figure
  • stories - using narratives
  • architecture for inspiration.

Smart Materials

"Smart Materials in architecture, interior architecture and design" by Axel Ritter.

This is a fantastic book with so many different types of inspiring materials that they are hard to comprehend let alone think about how to use.  Hopefully I will be able to imagine how to use some of them as they are amazing.

Ang Lee's film: Lust, Caution

A very dramatic spy film set in Hong Kong and Shanghai during WWII.  It's a very different type of film to Brokeback Mountain which is also directed by Ang Lee, but just as emotional and sad.
"Lust, Caution" has been adapted from a short story by Eileen Chang, the real title in Mandarin is "Se jie" with Tony Leung in the lead role.
